Responsibility

Target Age:

Early Four-Year Old

Materials You Will Need:

calendar

What To Do:

Before your next trip to the library, discuss the concept of borrowing and returning the materials that you check out. Talk about how your child would feel if someone borrowed some books or toys and didn't take care of them.

Ask if your child is ready to be responsible for choosing and taking care of the books borrowed from the library. Limit the number of items your child checks out, (if you check out 5 books each time you visit, you'll always know you have to return 5 books when they're due). Mark the due date on your calendar so that your child can see the deadline.

Variations:

Have a special bin in your child''s play room for library books only. Label the bin.
