Phone Etiquette

Target Age:

Middle Three-Year Old

Materials You Will Need:

phone

What To Do:

This activity will introduce your child to telephone etiquette. Teach your child how to politely answer the phone and engage in conversation by using a phone you no longer use. Begin by telling your child the correct way to answer the phone. You and your child can have fun role playing with two phones, or by actually using two different phones in the house so you can hear each other. This is the time to teach your child that the person on the other phone can't see the person on the other line, so nodding or shaking his/her head won't answer questions, and that typically, the person on the phone is calling for an adult in the house. Make sure your child knows only to answer the phone with your permission.
