Cleaning Spills

Target Age:

Early Three-Year Old

Materials You Will Need:

washcloths, basket or container of old dishrags

What To Do:

This activity will encourage independence and promote confidence at an age when children take great pride in doing things independently. Place the basket of cloths somewhere that your child can reach. Demonstrate how to clean up a spill using one of the cloths. Show you child how to wring the cloth out in the sink, and where to put it when finished. (You may need to clean up the spill again after your child's attempt.) Consider the importance of the process rather than the end result when teaching your child new self-help tasks.
