Bagging Groceries

Target Age:

Middle Three-Year Old

Materials You Will Need:

paper grocery bag, variety of food items

What To Do:

Let your child practice bagging groceries while experimenting with the concept of weight with this activity. Arrange a variety of food items, (canned goods, fruit, bread, etc.), on a table and invite your child to bag them, just like they do at the grocery. Encourage your child to find the heaviest item to bag first, then the next heaviest, etc. Discuss the ramifications of putting a light or fragile item on the bottom of the bag, packing the bag with too many heavy items, etc. Your child may want to help the next time you do your grocery shopping!
